Jalees holds a prominent position among publishing houses in Kuwait, having been established in 2001. Their publications encompass a range of subjects, including human development, psychology, finance, and more. Their primary objective has always been to simplify accessibility to books and streamline the publishing process.
The challenge they faced was that their existing identity lacked an emotional connection with the audience. Like many other publishing houses, they used to simply showcase book images on their social media platforms. It was necessary to transform this approach to pique people's curiosity about the book's topic and make it easier for readers and book enthusiasts to determine if a particular book aligned with their interests.
Our solution, devised in collaboration with the copywriters on my team, involved creating a new identity that was expressive, artistic, and highly adaptable in conveying stories and providing a quick overview of the book. To achieve this, we decided to utilize carousels as the new format.
Extensive research revealed that many readers and book enthusiasts maintain journals incorporating various media, such as paper, photos, book quotes, and even flowers. Taking inspiration from this practice, we adopted a collage style for Jalees that allowed us to express and narrate stories effectively, regardless of whether the topic was dark, uplifting, psychological, or related to finance. The collage style employed by Jalees drew influence from surrealism and its ability to delve into the depths of the human subconscious.
